Legal Requirements, Specially Designed Instruction, and Defensible Practice Special education law is more than a set of procedures—it establishes an obligation to provide students with disabilities an educational program designed to meet their unique needs and support appropriate progress. In this interactive session, participants will connect the legal requirements of IDEA and FAPE to the instructional practices that bring an IEP to life. Together, we’ll examine what makes special education truly special, explore specially designed instruction (SDI) as the heart of special education, and consider what legally defensible practice looks like in everyday implementation.
